Fencing for Fritillary

The new fence at Cockcrow Bottom

New fencing at Cockcrow Bottom

New stock fence is now in place as part of our project to attract the rare Marsh Fritillary. We can now graze the area carefully with cattle, to create the right characteristics in the turf – mixed heights, quite rough and irregular, with occasional bare patches and hoofprints. Read more about our special butterfly project…

Funding from Natural England helped pay for the new fences, totalling 1 kilometre. This sheepnet-and-two-barbed was expertly installed by Mike Barker. Look up Mike’s Land Management next time you want countryside management work done, anywhere near Lambourn and the Berkshire Downs. Tel: 07899 844583.
