Support your local Leader bid

Sheepdrove Organic Farm’s working community are lucky enough to be located in the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s a great area to work in, with stunning views, fantastic wildlife, ancient droves – a working landscape with a sense of heritage.

Lambourn is a vibrant village with a organic farming on the up, the racehorse industry, its own Post Office, a leisure centre, a library, and the windswept hills of the Lambourn Downs. However, as with many rural communities in the AONB there are challenges such as: transport, the distance from healthcare facilities, the apparently limited range of career prospects for young people, the need for fuel security, and changes in farming.

Leader funds are one way that the North Wessex Downs AONB community can invest in a sustainable rural  economy for the future. So a Local Action Group has been formed and right now the bid for Leader funds is being finalised. If they get this funding, fresh money will be put into innovative projects created by local people.  This could include all sorts of things, such as new business opportunities, waste management, renewable energy, and local food supply.

The North Wessex Downs AONB Local Action Group need your support. Please write a LETTER OF SUPPORT or EMAIL to the team. Letters are welcome from everyone – farmers, businesses, schools, groups or individuals. Show the funders that you care about our local communities getting this boost. Deadline = 29 Jan 2008.
