According to our good friend, wildlife expert Colin Shawyer, 2008 seems lined up to be a good year for the Barn Owl. Early checks at nest sites in England (under special licence) show a strong occupancy rate.
These owls breed in tune with available prey, the female responding to the amount of food brought to her by the male. So a good year for voles and woodmice usually turns out to be a productive year for owls.
